Barkevious Mingo, who played the 2020 season with the Chicago Bears, is signing a 1-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons according to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

The 30-year old outside linebacker will be joining his seventh team in the last seven years after originally being a first-round pick of the Cleveland Browns in 2013.

Last year in Chicago he played in all 16 games, with 3 starts, and he made 35 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 5 QB hits, 3 tackles for loss, and 2 passes defended. He was the first OLB off the bench for the Bears, playing in 36% of their defensive snaps, and he was a core special teamer with 82% of the snaps on the third phase. Mingo was 5th on the Bears with 6 special teams tackle, and his 11 yard run on a fake punt was one of the more exciting plays form Chicago’s 2020 season.

With the Bears picking up a new OLB3 with the acquisition of Jeremiah Attaochu, that made Mingo expendable, and while Attaochu has shown to be a better edge rusher during his 7 years as a pro, he’s not as accomplished of a special teamer.

What are your thoughts on the Bears swapping Attaocho for Mingo in 2021?
