On Thursday the Indianapolis Colts signed kicker Eddy Piñeiro to a 1-yeal deal to compete with current kicker Rodrigo Blankenship.
Piñeiro is no stranger to kicking competitions as he was the winner of the Chicago Bears kickerpalooza in 2019, and he went on to make 82.1% of his fields goals and 93.1% of his extra points that season.
He spent all of the 2020 season on injured reserve with a groin injury, and with the fantastic year that Cairo Santos just had for the Bears, the team elected to not re-sign Piñeiro.
In 2020 Blankenship hit 86.5% of his field goals and 95.6% of his extra points, but leg strength was a question for him. Piñeiro was known for his power while a member of the Florida Gators, but that hasn’t shown up in the NFL yet.
If the 25-year old Piñeiro can shake the injury bug that has plagued him his entire career, he could have some good football in front of him.
