The Chicago Bears are kicking off their first on-field offseason workout today as all the rookies are at Halas Hall for rookie mini-camp.
Besides their 7 draft picks, the Bears will also have their recent undrafted free agent signings in tow, several first-year players, and five participants will be in Lake Forest on a try-out basis.
Quarterback Kyle Sloter, who spent some time with the Bears last year on the practice squad, will be there to throw along with rookie Justin Fields. With veteran quarterbacks Andy Dalton and Nick Foles on the current roster Sloter’s most likely shooting for another practice squad gig.
Head coach Matt Nagy will be forced to only participate this weekend virtually as he was identified as a COVID-19 close contact. All of this weekends classroom stuff was going to virtual anyway, so he’ll only miss out on in-person field practice.
Here’s the full rookie camp roster courtesy of the team’s website.
Draft picks:
1: Justin Fields, QB
24o: Khalil Herbert, RB
27: Thomas Graham Jr., CB
75: Larry Borom, OT
76: Teven Jenkins, OT
83: Dazz Newsome, WR
95: Khyiris Tonga, NT
UDFAs:
6: Brian Johnson, K
24d: Dionte Ruffin, CB
37: CJ Marable, RB
49o: Scooter Harrington, TE
49d: Charles Snowden, OLB
62d: Thomas Schaffer, DL
62o: William Cervenka, OG
63o: Gunnar Vogel, OT
69: Dareuan Parker, OG
72: Daniel Archibong, DT
78: Sam Kamara, DT
86: Khalil McClain, WR
92: Caleb Johnson, LB
The Bears have Charles Snowden listed as a defensive lineman on the team page, so I wonder where the 6’7”, 240 pounder will end up.
First-year Bears:
19: Thomas Ives, WR
31: Tre Roberson, CB
46: Rojesterman Farris, CB
53: Ledarius Mack, OLB
60o: Dieter Eiselen, OG
60d: Michael Pinckney, LB
63d: LaCale London, DE
82: Jester Weah, WR
It’s good to see Tre Roberson get a chance to show that he’s fully recovered from the injury he suffered a year ago. The Bears were high on him after signing him from the CFL in 2020. Also, it’s interesting to see LeDarius Mack listed as an outside linebacker (presumably edge), as he was listed as a linebacker last year.
Try-out players:
13: Chris Lacy, WR
15: Kyle Sloter, QB
30: Tedric Thompson, S
44: Michael Roberts, TE
57: Peter Kalambayi, LB
Besides the obvious, any of the above players get you guys excited to see what they can do?
