The Chicago Bears have a second* player that cracked Pro Football Focus’ PFF50: The 50 best players in the NFL right now list, and this one should be no surprise as Khalil Mack has been one of the most dominant defenders during his entire seven year run in the NFL.
Here’s what they wrote about Chicago’s terror off the edge.
Mack was once again the highest-graded edge defender in the NFL last season, finishing the campaign with an overall PFF grade of 92.3. Only Mack and T.J. Watt finished the year with PFF grades above 90.0 in run defense and as a pass-rusher.
For Mack, it was his fifth PFF grade above 90.0 in seven years at the NFL level, with the other two seeing him slip only to the level of 86.0. He recorded 59 total pressures, including the playoffs.
Mack led the Bears in sacks (9) and defensive fumble recoveries (2), tied for the team lead in forced fumbles (3), and was second in tackles for loss (11) and QB Hits (13).
His impact shows up in more places than just the box score, which is why some fans don’t appreciate his greatness. Offense’s game plan around him, they send extra pass protection his way, and they scheme away from him when they run the ball.
You guys expecting another big year from Mack in 2021?
* Wide out Allen Robinson was the other Bear that made the PFF Top 50.
