The Bears activated defensive tackle Eddie Goldman from the reserve/COVID-19 list on Friday, the team announced. They also waived wide receiver Thomas Ives with an injury designation.
Goldman missed the entirety of the 2020 season, having opted out due to concerns about COVID-19. He skipped mandatory minicamp in June but returned to the team soon after, only to be placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Aug. 3. It remains unknown if Goldman will play in the Bears’ preseason matchup against the Dolphins on Saturday, but he will be on the team’s active roster.
The 2015 second-round pick has 153 tackles in the five seasons he has played for Chicago, starting in 63 of his 67 appearances over the course of his professional career. He projects to step back in as the team’s starting nose tackle, slating him alongside Akiem Hicks and Bilal Nichols on the defensive line.
Ives, a Hinsdale native, has spent each of the last three offseasons with the Bears. The Colgate alumnus spent 2019 and 2020 on the practice squad, not catching a pass for the team in regular season action during that time.
