Bears waive Javon Wims

NFL: Miami Dolphins at Chicago Bears Jon Durr-USA TODAY Sports

On Thursday morning the Chicago Bears announced that they have waived wide receiver Javon Wims while re-signing defensive back Dionte Ruffin.

Wims had been with the Bears since being a seventh round pick in the 2018 draft, appearing in 33 games with 7 starts, and he had 28 receptions for 266 yards and 2 touchdowns during his time in Chicago.

He’s probably most known for throwing an ill-advised punch at New Orleans’ C. J. Gardner-Johnson in the Bears 26–23 overtime loss a year ago, or perhaps for dropping the flea-flicker dime-ball that would have been a touchdown in the Bears 21-9 wildcard loss to the Saints which ended their 2020 season.

Ruffin (5’11”, 185) was cut by the Bears a couple weeks ago, but now the rookie UDFA will have a second chance to make a case to stick around for the 2021 season, as the Bears wrap up their preseason on Saturday night against the Tennessee Titans.
