As of right now the Chicago Bears are set to take on the Tennessee Titans on Saturday night, but with a recent COVID outbreak landing several Titan players on the Reserve/COVID-19 list we’ll have to wait and see what the league decides to do. Tennessee has been getting daily tests for their players, and if all goes according to plan the game will take place as scheduled. The Titans are fairly certain that they’ll get all of, or most of, their players and coaches back for the game, but with it being the preseason they’ll likely hold out several regulars anyway.
The Bears have already announced that they plan to start rookie quarterback Justin Fields, with QB1 Andy Dalton getting the night off, and they’ll let Fields begin the game with the starting offensive line.
I enjoy these preseason finales because the fringe roster guys are going all out to catch someone’s eye. Whether that be with their current team, or scouts from another team, these guys are fighting to remain in the NFL. Rosters need to be down to 53 players from the current 80 by Tuesday, August 31, which means about 864 players will get a visit from The Turk.
But then the following day teams will start to compile their 16-man practice squads, which will get 512 players back employed. It makes for a frenzy of roster moves, and with there being an extra week between the regular season and the preseason it could add even more intrigue to the roster building.
As far as the actual Bears vs Titans game, here are three things I’ll be keeping my eye on, and then I’ll run through some Tweets from you guys and what you’re looking for.
O-line
I hope the starting tackles of Jason Peters and Germain Ifedi get a few series of work in, and then I’m interested to see back up rookie tackle Larry Borom get some time. I hope to see James Daniels make his debut at right guard, and I’ll have a close eye on center Sam Mustipher while he’s in the game too.
Justin Fields
I have my doubts how much action we’ll see out of Justin Fields, but when he is in I want to see him running through his progressions and recognizing the free rushers.
Edge rushers
I doubt we’ll see any Khalil Mack, but I want to see second year pro Trevis Gipson, and UDFAs Charles Snowden and Sam Kamara all build off their nice play form the last two weeks.
No injuries.

Fields: 2-3 TD, 0 INT. Peters & Ifedi hold their own, both in terms of technique and conditioning. Pass rush outside of Mack gets pressure. Backfield outside of Johnson plays solid coverage. Nagy play calling is dynamic, with plenty of pre-snap motion.

Since there won’t be many starting WR. I’m focusing more on how the D bounces back from that beat down last week. Show us some depth in our DBs please

Some coherent O-line play in front of those taking snaps.

No injuries.
Someone separate themselves in the battle to be CB2.
Still waiting on that competent and productive offense.

I’d like to see all the starters get at least a few reps. It’s more than 2 weeks between the final preseason game and the opener. I’d prefer not having guys who haven’t seen live contact in 3+ weeks starting against the Rams.

I want to see plenty of 1st and tens, especially after 3rd down situations.

Discipline, fundamentals and I suppose some tackling and effort would be nice too

Saturday night should be all about Fields. I want to see him make line adjustments, throw on time and in rhythm, stay in and manipulate clean pockets, handle the blitz & make the proper post snap reads to name a few.

I want to see a lot of Dazz, especially with the ball in his hands. Everyone seems to be projecting him to the 53, but haven’t got to see much of him since the injury. Bears will have to keep six WRs or make Rodney Adams a tough cut to keep him. Draft pick make him a lock or nah?
