This organization needs to focus. Lets see how they can do this through a mission statement.

Mission

To be a Championship football team while consistently delivering the highest level of entertainment to our fans and support to our community.

The mission statement should just say "To be a Championship football team"

If you are a Championship football team you will be entertaining to watch. Supporting the community can fall under your values, if you can’t achieve a level of success to make your product sustainable you won’t be helping anyone. It is only in your mission statement to make the community feel good, do this by your actions not words. It sounds like you are already good at that.

Ok, lets unpack the fluff that is their values

As a founding franchise in the NFL - this is fluff that brings up the past, you and your staff should be looking to the future not the past, let history of your success cover this. You need to be successful for people to care about you being a founding franchise. From the owners to the kid picking up balls that go out of bounds, you should get your pride from what you do and achieve, not living in the shadows of giants of the past. They can't hold you up anymore and the more irrelevant you get the less those greats of the past are remembered. You can't even get great players you have had the past few years recognized via the Pro Bowl anymore.

we hold ourselves to the highest standards and value integrity, respect, team, and excellence above all else. Simplify this

Integrity

Respect

Excellence above all else? Above respect and integrity? This leaves too much up for interpretation, Remove excellence above all else and add accountability. If everyone holds others and themselves accountable, excellence will come and when it does it will be sustained.

Regardless of the job or title, everyone in this organization matters and everyone contributes. We share a steadfast commitment to greatness in all aspects of our business and continue to learn, innovate, and grow daily.

This can be boiled down to inclusiveness and adaptability if you move you move commitment to greatness under Accountability.

Adaptability - through collaborative effort we move quickly to adapt to new situations. e.g. roster moves, scouting, rule changes, game time adjustments

New mission statement of:

To be a Championship football team

Your Values:

Integrity - Be honest with the organization at all levels and with yourself

Respect - Respect others regardless of their position, status, and beliefs.

Accountability - Own your mistakes and hold others to that same standard.

Inclusiveness - We look for the best to fill every position with the best candidate period the end. Differences at any level are our strength not a weakness.

Adaptability - Through a collaborative effort we move quickly to adapt to new situations. e.g. roster moves, scouting, rule changes, game time adjustments.

Charity - Give back to the community who has supported us.

When something like the HITS principle is bought in you need to trace it back to your values. The HITS principle should not be sold as a principle but as tool players can use to align their goals to team values and overall mission. If you can’t do that, you need to modify HITS. Coaching needs to have their goals aligned to the values as well. e.g. Accountability after games and Adaptability during games. The scouting department must do the same as well as the GM and President. Not having a clear mission statement and clear set of values, has this team looking lost. In my humble opinion.

Anyone have thoughts on improving this?
