How to bet the Thursday Night Football game

Do you guys remember what happened the first time the Los Angeles Chargers played the Las Vegas Raiders this year? Some of you probably recall that Khalil Mack, the former Bear and Raider, recorded a ridiculous 6 sacks. I was told by some on here and on Twitter that it doesn’t really count when you get that many in one game and that Mack was actually washed so I shouldn’t be impressed.

Ummm, okay. Khalil Mack leads the NFL with 15 sacks and, just checked, the NFL is still counting all 6 of the sacks he had the first time around in this matchup. All he needs to do is repeat that performance, record another half dozen, and he’ll be within shouting distance of the single season record. Either way, leading the league in sacks for Mack would be a huge feather in his cap and would be another mark in his favor when he’s eligible for the Hall of Fame.

Why did I just spend so much time on Khalil Mack? Well, what else are you going to watch? Easton Stick against Aiden O’Connell?! The Chargers just lost Justin Herbert for the season and the Raiders have yet to announce a starter as of Wednesday night. Maybe we’ll get to see Brian Hoyer, I don’t know if we’ll be so lucky.

It should be a game dominated by defense. The Raiders are at home, they’ve been playing with a little more fire since Josh McDaniels was let go so I’m giving them the edge here. The total is an ugly number but I’m channeling the Hawkeyes and rocking the under. If you can find a prop bet for defensive TD, I think that’s where the smart money is at.

Picks: Raiders -3, under 34.5
