We’ve got ourselves a decent little Thursday Night Football game. The New Orleans Saints, currently sitting at 7-7 on the outside looking in for a wildcard spot in the playoffs travel west to take on the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams are also 7-7 and hanging onto the 7th seed.
The Rams have won four of their last five with their only blemish coming at the hands of the Ravens in Baltimore in overtime. Their next two opponents are the Giants and the aforementioned 49ers, who have a shot of wrapping up the number one seed by if things break right in Week 17. The Rams offense has come alive with Matthew Stafford distributing the ball to Cooper Kupp and rookie sensation Puka Nacua. The young Rams defense (basically Aaron Donald and a bunch of young players) has really stepped up since the bye week.
The Saints have two paths to the playoffs but their best shot might just be to capture the division in what’s now likely a two-team contest with the Bucs. The Saints have had one of the easier schedules in the league but sit at .500 with their best victory a 38-27 win in Indianapolis. Otherwise, all of their wins have come against bad teams.
The Rams are the more interesting squad, they’re at home, and they’ve been playing better football as of late. I think they take care of business and the Rams offense continues to put up points. I’m bouncing back and forth on the spread but given the short week and the importance of the game to both squads, I think it stays tight. Let’s all enjoy a mid football game in late December!
Picks: Rams moneyline, Saints +4, over 44.5
