Best Bets: Jets at Browns (TNF Open Thread)

How to bet the Thursday Night Football game

The New York Jets had sky high expectations coming into the season. When Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles early in the first quarter of the season opener, the Jets seemingly froze, unable to pivot. The talented Jets roster languished behind an incoherent plan at quarterback and come into this one at 6-9. Reports are that the Jets are happy to write off the year as a lost year because of the Rodgers injury and will run it back next year like this never happened.

The Cleveland Browns also had sky high expectations coming into the season. Their quarterback got hurt, which seemingly sunk the season. The Browns bounced around between PJ Walker and Dorian Thompson-Robinson, struggling with their original backup plan. Then, Joe Flacco arrived. This will be Flacco’s 5th game with the Browns and while he’s already thrown 7 interceptions, his 10 touchdown passes are more than the other three starting quarterbacks combined. His 1,307 yard lead the other three as well. Browns players have rallied around him as well and the Browns are in the top wildcard position entering the week.

In this Thursday Night Football match up, the last of the season, the defenses will be the highlight. Both are among the most talented in the league with the ability to win games on their own. I’m tempted to hammer the under just based on that fact, but at 34.5 and the Browns offense suddenly clicking with Flacco, I’m rolling with the over. It’s just too low of a number for me.

I wish the line was a bit lower and I’d feel a little better about my pick. If you can buy a point off this one and get the Browns at -6.5, even with the penalty on the payout, I’d do that. As it is, I’m going to roll with the Browns to take care of business in this one.

Picks: Browns -7.5, over 34.5
