Taylor Doll’s Making Monsters podcasts have provided an interesting look at Chicago Bears players before they were Bears by talking with former high school and college coaches and media members who covered them during their college years. It’s been a great way to learn more about them as a person, which gives us an even bigger reason to cheer for their success.
In her latest, she learned more about Cairo Santos’ amazing story, from being a foreign exchange student to becoming an NFL kicker. Santos is coming off a game-winning field goal against the Vikings and NFC Special Teams Player of the Month honors. And did you know that he’s the all-time leader in field goal percentage in Chicago Bears history?
Taylor talked with Santos’ former High School Coach, Will Smith of St Joseph Academy, about his transition to American football. She also spoke with his former head coach at Tulane, Curtis Johnson, who is currently the head coach of the Houston Gamblers in the USFL. Johnson also served as the wide receiver for the Bears in 2016, so that talks some about former Bears wideouts Alshon Jeffrey, Eddie Royal, and Cam Meredith, plus they get into the connection between Justin Fields and DJ Moore.
