A bit of an odd choice by the NFL to put the Pittsburgh Steelers - Baltimore Ravens game on as the opener for the week. The Ravens have clinched the top seed in the AFC and aren’t playing for much while the Steelers have seemingly found a spark with Mason Rudolph. Sure, we all saw that coming. If the Steelers win this one they’ll have a shot at the post-season depending on the outcome of some other games and tie-breakers and whatever. I think they get it done as it’s hard to imagine Baltimore putting much stock in this one.
The game that really interests me is the evening game pitting the Houston Texans against the Indianapolis Colts. The Texans have had a dream season from one of the worst teams a year ago to taking a new coach and signal caller to the verge of the playoffs. Both the Texans and Colts enter the game at 9-7 with the winner getting into the show. They will likely be a wildcard team, entering the playoffs as the 6 or 7 seed, but they could win the division if the Jaguars stub their toe against the Titans on Sunday.
The Colts are actually a home underdog in this one and while they haven’t been the most impressive team in the league down the stretch, the Texans have had their share of troubles as well. I’m riding with Gardner Minshew to get it done for Indianapolis, which is a cool story on its own after the Colts rookie QB went down early with an injury. Should be a fun match up - something few predicted in September.
Picks: Steelers -4, Colts moneyline, over both games (let’s score some points)
